Cannot download templates using Word 2007

The Big K

Hi all,

I've Office 2007 Standard edition running on Windows Vista Business 32 bit.
I'm unable to download new templates from within the Word 2007. Every time I
browse through the template categories, I get an error message -

"Unable to connect to Microsoft Office Online"
-Try Again
-Troubleshoot your internet connection

Since Word can connect to internet while browsing the help files, I'm unable
to track down the exact pain point!

I've added Word 2007 to firewall allowed programs, but no use. Please help
me fix this problem.

Regards,

You've landed in a Word for Mac discussion group, and the feature doesn't
yet apply in Mac versions of Word. Although there are several people here
who are also highly expert in PC versions of Word, and they may come by
soon, you may get quicker results on the general Word discussion forums.

Hi Kaustubh:

You need to log in to the Microsoft Office site with your Windows Live ID,
and you need to have installed the Microsoft Genuine Advantage ActiveX
control.

It is easier to associate your WLID with your System Login so you do not
have to keep typing it each time.

Then you will be taken out to the Passport login site the first time you
attempt to go for Office Downloads in each session. Sometimes you will need
to make two attempts to connect: Passport is very slow and unreliable unless
you are in the USA. But eventually it will work.

And eventually, Microsoft will realise that this mechanism is not slowing
the pirates down at all, but it's making life painful for the genuine users,
and they will get rid of it :)

Cheers

First of all, I'm really sorry for posting in wrong newsgroup :-( .

Secondly, I'll assume that I'm forgiven. :)

Thanks a ton for redirecting me to the correct forum. I do have a genuine
version of Vista & Office. I also have the said active X installed.

Thanks!
