Cannot download the Upgrade because dial up internet

I need to somehow get a hard copy of the Office 2008 update (purchased the program new, and irritating because there is an update that was not included). I use dial up (stop laughing . . .), and the download for the update would take nine hours. My connection will not stay on for that long, so I therefore need the update on a disk. How can I get this in a hard copy?

I don't think that is possible. Try to get a friend with broadband to down
load it for you.

And that "friend" doesn't have to have a Mac... I can still be downloaded,
copied to a USB stick, then copied to your HD for installation.

1> Use Curl from terminal:

Curl -C - -O
http://download.microsoft.com/download/4/6/f/46f710e2-4601-467a-9f95-fb3cb5b
2d713/Office2008-1201UpdateEN.dmg

2> When you purchase something, they don't specially make a version just for
little old you; handle the fact that you might just need to download an
update.

Damn American's and their continuous whining.

O.K., first of all I don't understand how Patrick's question is whining. It's a legitimate question from people like myself who happen to be in areas where high speed Internet is not available. We do realize we have to download an update, we just need to know how (and no I am not an American).

I'm prepared to "use a friend" to get this update. But where does this friend find the file after the download, so that he can transfer it to a memory stick? If this is whining I apologize, but I don't know how else to ask the question.

The file will be wherever downloaded files get put when said friend
downloads stuff from the internet (there's usually some default
location). Alternatively, search the hard drive for the file name.

Nor do I - Who accused anyone of whining?

It certainly is a valid question and one of the issues we've brought to the
attention of MS - not just re updates but also Help & ClipArt. Web based is
most definitely a drawback for anyone with less than a DSL connection.

However, there's nothing in the responses here other than accurate &
helpful information.

Thanks everyone for your posts, and I ended up bringing the computer in to a local Apple Store, and they gladly downloaded the update for me free of charge. They were extremely helpful. Microsoft's support staff told me after waiting twenty minutes in queue on the phone to "go to a local library, and try to download and burn the update." A simple solution would have been to put the update on a CD and mail it to me, but this was not Microsoft's solution. Huh. Thank God for the Apple Store!
