Cannot draw a horizontal line

Greetings! I'm attempting to draw a plain horizontal line using the Line
tool. The starting point has a green handle on it, and the ending point has
a red handle on it. The line will only draw at 45 degree angles. I am not
holding the shift or any other keys while I drag the mouse. Any ideas?
