Cannot edit imported access table

I just imported data from an excel table into an access 2002 database. I
cannot, however, edit the table (ie. delete a record, add a primary key, etc.)

Why?

My first guess would be because you didn't actually import it, you linked
it. Both are options under GetExternalData and its easy to slip.

I'll extend George's response.

Open your Access application, go to the Database window. Does the table in
question have an arrow to the left of the name? If so, that's a linked
table, as George describes.

Nope. I did an import. This is occurring every time.

Can you import it again and modify the (newly-imported) table?

I tried it several times. I've been importing Paradox tables (and these are
backups of the originals). I have exported the paradox tables into Excel
tables, but came up with the same results: cannot edit the table.

I exported the Paradox tables into text files (comma seperated text files)
and imported them, but came up with the same results.

I am saving the database on a shared drive where I save all of my programs
in development, so I can't imagine it's a security/rights issue.

I'm running out of ideas.

Are you linking to the Paradox data or are you opening Paradox and exporting
the data to a format that can then be read by either Excel or Access?

I've tried both: directly importing from Paradox, exporting Paradox to
Excel/TXT and then importing to Access: ZIPPO.

Is there a setting I should make fro within Access before trying to import?

Not that I'm aware of ... perhaps one of the other newsgroup readers has run
across this...
