cannot edit picture

I am not able to edit an inserted picture.
Also, I cannot see the picture unless I am in print preview.

Both are actually by-design, under many circumstances. If you
tell us which version of Word you're using and the graphics
format you're inserting, we might be able to give you some
tips.
