When I open past or current documents, for some reason I can no longer
highlight, cut & paste . . . .do any editing. I can only move through the
document with up / down arrow . . . . . cannot even edit mis-spelled words.

ANY IDEAS ?

What version of Word? If Word 2007, perhaps it is a trial version that has
expired?

This is a full authorized, previously working program ( yesterday ) - part of the Full, registered "Microsoft Office Ultimate 2007."

The error does not occur any other Office program -only Word and I have run
the Microsoft diagnostics on it with no success.

Thank you for your reply !

Does it work in Office Safe Mode (press Ctrl while launching it)?

THANK You for your help; the 'safe mode' did in fact work ! Subsequently, opening of existing documents have shown none of the previous problems . . . .I presuppose after having opened and closed the application a few times without incident that the same will be true after I shut down and reboot the computer.

I appreciate your help, Very Much ! Thank You !

Hi,

I am having the same problem, and it started just a few days ago. I'm using
Vista (32-bit) SP1 and Microsoft Office 2007. I have tried repairing the
Office 2007 installation, and that did not work.

I checked, and the document is not locked:

- Track changes is turned on, and I can search/replace and that works.
- I can do a Ctrl+A > Ctrl+C then Ctrl+V into a new Word doc, but cannot
double-click or highlight any word in the new document.
- When I type from the keyboard, the characters are added to the end of the
document. I can't edit those, either.
- When I create a new document, I can type new characters into it, but I
cannot edit those characters.

I tried opening Word while holding down the Ctrl key, but that did nothing
different.

Does anyone know of a recent Vista update that is causing this? This
happened to me a few months ago when a Vista SP2 was downloaded/installed on
my laptop. I rolled back to SP1 and the problem went away. I checked, and my
Vista is still SP1. I searched this and the CNET forms, and there is no
resolution for this posted anywhere that works.

HELP!!! Thank you all in advance for your help!

titled "Let me fix it myself" explains what the button does, but the button
is easier.)
