Cannot edit Word document from sharepoint site

Dear People,

A client of mine owns a MAC. The OS is MAC OS X with Word X. when she
goes to a sharepoint site and trief to modify or edit the document she
gets the following error:

'Edit Document' requires a Windows SharePoint Services-compatible
application and Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 or greater

The original docuemnt was made bij Microsoft Word 2003 (Windows
Client). Doe anyone know what the solution is to teh problem.

Mine guess is that Word X for MAC is not compatible with Word 2003 for
Windows.

I'm not by any means an authority on SharePoint, but I can assure you that
the problem is *not* a compatibility issue with Mac Word - PC Word (any
recent versions of either). Most likely it is a browser issue. IIRC the user
must be running IE 5.0 or later (which has been abandoned by MS on the Mac
but can still be had) or Mozilla 1.4 or later. No other Mac browser software
(including Safari) is supported by Sharepoint.

If the user is running a supported browser & still having issues they can
probably be addressed in one of the microsoft.public.sharepoint.xxx
newsgroups if you don't get the answer here.

Thanx to you both for the information. I will try both soltions.

Other browser or teh method to uncheck de Word docuement. I will let
you know if it works.
