Cannot email from publisher 2003 since upgrading to outlook 2007

I have just upgraded from Outlook 2003 to Outlook 2007. Now when I try to
send a message from publisher 2003 the email preview or send as message is
disabled.
I have tried the Microsoft workarounds (to make sure Outlook is the default
mail program in IE and to update registry) but these do not change things. Is
there another solution without having to upgrade to Publisher 2007?
