cannot empty 'deleted folder'

Can no longer delete most emails as deleted file is full. Cannot empty
deleted folder. Get a message saying messenging interface has reteurned an
unknown error. Some individual emails can be deleted (and moved to the
almost full folder) but others receive an error message saying the folder is
full. How can I empty this folder. Whenever I try I get the 'unknown error'
messsage.

my folder has over 2100 deleted messages Outlook version 2007

Have you tried running scanpst.exe against your .pst file? Folders in
pre-Outlook 2003 unicode versions had a maximum size of 65,000+ items so
your folder is far from full. Outlook 2003/2007 unicode format is
considerably larger.

I am having the same problem. I ran scanpst.exe and it correct a few
items. I can delete three messages in my deleted message folder,
and then I get the same message "messenging interface has returned an
unknown error. Help
