"Cannot empty the clipboard" message

When I try to drag information in cells to another location on my excel
worksheet, I have started getting a message that says "Cannot empty the
clipboard" every time. I can manually empty the contents of the clipboard,
but that isn't doing anything. Why am I getting this message and how do I
get rid of it??

Go to the Microsoft site andclick on that utility which searches your system
and determines what Service Packs you may need. Download and install them and
then restart your computer.

This happened to me a whiile back and happened to a colleague of miine just
the other day.

I don't understand what causes this error, but that fix, which I learned
about at the Microsoft website, worked on both occasions.
