cannot enter product key on office 2007 blacks out continue butto.

I installed Office 2007 on my new computer (Vista operated) about 3 months
ago. a few weeks ago it started giving me errors when I tried to open
documents already saved. I uninstalled Office and then tried to reinstall and
now it will not take the product key because it blacks out the "continue"
button and it now starts in "safe" mode. Is this a bad Office version?
