Cannot find the file

A fault has recently shown up on my Word 2000. If I double-click on
Word doc Word opens with the error message "Cannot find the file..."
But if I now select File\Open the doc opens as normal

You probably need to reregister Word. See

An easier technique than the one described in the article is this:

1. Click Start | Run.

2. In the Open box, type

winword /r

and press Enter. Note that there is a space before the forward slash.

Word will not appear to be doing anything, but it will reregister itself
(reestablish its association with the .doc and .dot file types in the
Windows Registry), which should solve the problem.
