Cannot format a section of text

I am having a problem with a section of text in Word 2000.
I cannot format from a certain point inmy document down.
Cannot change fonts, noting. The message I receive is

Number must be between 1 and 600, any help...

If you get a message "number must be between 1 and 600", it probably
means that font scaling was accidentally applied. Look at Format |
Font | Character Spacing tab | Scale and set it back to 100%.
Alternatively, try Ctrl+Spacebar to kill direct font formatting.
