If (after selecting Edit Comment) I select Format Comment or try to (for example) change the font size of selected text, Excel crashes every time.

Well, obviously, it should not. Does this happen with any worksheet or just
one? Does it happen in a new user account? If you change a cell format to
that same font, what happens?

This happens on any worksheet including new workbooks. I created a new user account, as an admin, and the problems persists. Cells in the same font do not have any difficulty. Changing the default font makes no difference either.

While not entirely certain, I think that this may have occurred subsequent to me installing the XML file converter.

I'll also add that comments seem to be working fine in Excel v.X (10.1.9) and changes made there are reflected when the file is opened in v.2004 (11.3.3). Of course, this is not exactly how I wish to operate.

By "Cells in the same font do not have any difficulty" are you saying
that if the font in the comment is the same as the font in the cell it's
attached to, that you can then change font size, but not otherwise?

Does this happen only with a particular font or fonts? If so, that
sounds, like corrupt fonts. (XL04 has been known to be vulnerable to
font corruption that other apps shrugged off...)

How are you changing the font size (e.g., via Format Comment, or via the
Formatting Palette)?

BTW - it would be helpful if you'd reply to the reply you got, rather
than to your own original post, so that the entire conversation can be
reviewed...

By "Cells in the same font do not have any difficulty" I was responding to the question "If you change a cell format to
that same font, what happens?" So, no. If the comment has the same font as the cell, the problem still exists.

As to a particular font causing the problem, I had considered that after changing my default to Calibri (a new font delivered with the XML converter), but after changing back to Verdana and opening a new workbook, the problem persisted.

I was attempting to change the size thru the toolbar. I am unable to use the Format Comment dialogue as that causes the crash immediately.

Hi Bob, I responded to your message incorrectly if you are monitoring and want to check the thread anyways.

I'm still looking for any help on this issue...

Sorry - I can find no record of the message from which you partially quoted
nor have you provided any details about your version & update level of
Office, your OS version or type of Mac. With Office 2008 on Tiger (10.4.11)
I'm not experiencing anything like this nor can I force it to occur. Perhaps
one of us can offer suggestions but we need specifics on what you're working
with in order to provide anything meaningful.

Don't recall if you replied to my previous post - if you did I missed it
(sorry).

Since you replied to your own original post, it's impossible to tell
from the thread whether you've tried everything that's been suggested.

However, if you're having the problem I *think* I remember, and if you
checked in a fresh user account, have you checked to make sure you don't
have corrupted fonts?
