I have a project where I entered tasks and estimated the work involved for
each task. Now I am assigning resources. When I have multiple resources at
different assignment units, I want this to reflect the percentage of the
estimated work they will take on and not the percentage of their day they can
devote to the task. For instance, Task1 is 4weeks long, ResourceA(25%)
should be assigned 1week and ResourceB(75%) should be assigned 3weeks. During
those 1 and 3 weeks, the resources are available 100% of the time to work on
it. But instead MSP is dividing the task into equal work (ResourceA 2weeks
and ResourceB 2weeks) for each resource and extending the duration to 8
weeks.
I read in a post that if I were to create the task from scratch and add the
resources FIRST before entering the work estimates that MSP would do as I am
wanting. I tried this as a test and it did work. However, it will be a lot
of work to re-enter all my tasks - I have notes and lots of other Text#
fields defined with specific data for each task.
I also read in a post to do the following. Delete the work fields, then
re-enter the resources and assignment units, (click OK) to set the settings,
then re-enter the Work amounts. I've tried this and it is hit or miss if it
works - mainly miss.
I hope someone can help me figure out how to get the assignment units to
reflect the percentage of work to be assigned opposed to the available time
on a task.
