cannot import data from Entourage 2001 into Entourage for OS X

I've been using Entourage successfully for years in Mac 9. Now I'm
jumping through hoops trying to switch everything over to Panther.
When I try to import my contacts from old entourage into new
entourage, I choose import programs, select entourage 2001 as the
desired program, then the next screen is "Select your Entourage
Identity in the Office 2001 Indentites Folder". And that's where I hit
a road block. Entourage is there, but it's not clickable. The only
ones that are are clipart, office, read me, sample files, shared apps
and templates....none of which have my address book! Someone
pleeeaaassee help me before I pull out all of my hair.

The Office 2001 Identities folder is not in the Office Application folder.
You should find it in ~/Documents/Microsoft User Data/ If it is not there
(because this folder did not exist in OS 9) copy it there from the old OS 9
documents folder. If you have updated an OS9 machine to OS X the folder
'Documents' is probably still at the root level of your startup disk. Look
in there for the old MUD folder.

Thanks for the help. I went through the import process again, locating
my identy folder in microsoft user data, but then hit another snag
when I got an error message "import could not be completed because of
an error (-61). Does that mean anything to you?

Not sure what that error refers to.

If you just need contacts, you can open the old Entourage and Export under
File in the menu bar. Select tab-delimited file. Quit Entourage and open the
new Entourage X. In the Menu bar select Import. Navigate to the file that
was exported. This is a great way to keep a backup of your contacts too.

Oh my God. I don't know what I've done, but opened old Entourage and
nada. All my contacts are gone. I certainly haven't deleted them.
Where could they possibly be?

I've found my info again; it's no longer in Entourage 2001 but in
Microsoft User Data, Main Indentity as a Database. I opened by
converting any text and can see all my info. Now - how do I convert
this database information into something that can be imported into
Entourage X? Surely this shouldn't be so difficult! Thanks for all the
help.
