Cannot import data from Entourage 2001 to Entourage X

Chris

My ibook G3, OS9, is connected via Ethernet cable to my new ibook G4,
OS X Panther. I have tried to import my mails, contacts, etc. from
Entourage 2001 to Entourage X by clicking >File >Import and followed
the instructions. First error message: Cannot find Microsoft Entourage
2001 folder. I rebuild the database in Entourage 2001: still no
success. Then I put the Office 2001 CD in my G4's HD and tried to
import again. This time I could choose the Office 2001 Identities
folder, then click OK; Next error message: Could not import data from
Microsoft Entourage 2001 (error -54). I did the same thing with
copying the former Microsoft Entourage 2001 folder to the G4's
desktop: still no import possible. Please help me out! I am desparate!
Thanks 1000 times! Chris

1. Choose the actual Identity folder within the Office 2001 Identities
folder you want to import, if there's more than one. If there's only one
(Main Identity, or whatever you named it to), it should be working already.

2. Did you do an ADVANCED rebuild in Office 2001? If not, do so.

3. Copy the Office 2001 identities folder (or whole MUD folder) from your
iBook G3 to your new iBook G4 (anywhere), just in case there's a probably
doing the import over Ethernet. Since the installer didn't recognize the
remote app (Entourage 2001) as being "installed" on the G4, it may also not
like the remote MUD folder (unlikely, but worth a try).

4. If still no good, it looks like there's a serious problem, but who knows
what. Is your 2001 database too big?

5. In any case, if you can still run Entourage 2001 on that database on the
G3, you could do it all using my scripts Export-Import Entourage 2001 and
Export-Import Entourage X. You can get everything except rules, schedules
and links that way. You need to download both script sets from

MacScripter.net <http://macscripter.net/scriptbuilders/>

but you only need to pay for one activation code which will work on both
versions.

PLEASE always state which version of Entourage you are using - 2001 or X.
It's often impossible to answer your questions otherwise.

Hi Paul

I have transfered all my messages from Entourage 2001 through
Drag&Drop using the Ethernet connection between my G3 and my G4. It
worked out fine. I exported all E2001 contacts as a text file and
imported them into Entourage X. Categories were, of course, not
transfered :-( Last but not least, I have already purchased your
scripts a while ago. They worked perfectly fine on Mac OS 9 and I will
use them on OS X now. Finally, I am using Mail from Apple as my
default email program now.

Thanks for all your suggestions!
