Cannot import Entourage into Mail

One month ago I switched from PC to Mac. I needed to bring over 10 years of data from Outlook 2007 to Entourage and thus used Mactopia's recommended 3rd party software, "O2M." It was quite an ordeal, but now it's done. Since then I've decided I don't like Entourage much. Thus, I want to try using Mail. Now, for the current problem:

I clicked on File>Import Mailboxes>Microsoft Entourage and then selected continue. I saw all my folders that I had created in Entourage. However, for some strange reason it imported my archived Outlook messages but not the more current messages, including my Inbox from the past month. Strangely, it shows that same folders that I have in Entourage, but none of the messages. AppleCare has told me to check with Office for Mac support after spending some time trying to locate those files. I miss the function in a PC whereby one can right-click on almost anything and select "Properties" and thus locate it on the hard drive. I understand the equivalent on a Mac is "Get Info" but I don't see this option for an individual email message.

Thus, where are these stored??? We have checked under the Main Identity in Finder, but they aren't there. Perhaps that only contains the archived messages?

Thanks for any help you can give me. I had the AppleCare people stumped.

All the mail (and most of the other stuff) in Entourage is stored int eh
same place - The 'Database' file in the following path format:

~/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Ofice [nnnn] Identities/[Identity
name]/Database

(where '~' is you 'Home' directory and data in the [] braces must be
replaced with whatever is on your system)

Barry, thanks for your help. I became aware of the Identity location when I had to rebuild my Entourage database. And, I am assuming this is where data was pulled from when I tried to do the import into Mail. But, I still have the same problem. My inbox and subfolders appeared, but not the messages inside of them. Thus, how do I know what is in that Database (i.e., which messages)?

Thanks,

Jeremy

If you look at what used to be called 'custom views'. now 'Mail Views' -
there may be one there called 'All Mail' (I'm not sure if that one is
created by default or not). If it is not there, create one by setting up
search criteria like 'subject contains "a" OR subject does not contain
"a"' - this will find every mail in the database.

Right-click in the column headers and show the 'folder' column - this
will tell you the name of the folder where it is stored.

You did realise, didn't you, that imported mail is brought into a
sub-folder of the top level of 'on my computer? It does not put all the
folders back in the same place that they were previously (in case of
name conflicts in the system the mail is imported into)

Barry, when you say, "look at what used to be...," where do I look? Sorry, but I'm not following you and I'm still new to a Mac. Is this in Mail or Finder?

Per your 3rd paragraph, yes, I believe I understood this, but I'm not sure what it has to do with my problem. I simply don't see my emails in Mail, only the folders, which, yes, were imported into "ON MY MAC."

Thanks again for your help.

You might find more help on the Apple Discussions list. We can help moving
into Entourage but switching is better discussed in the other client's
forums.

Barry is in the UK so he's probably not available until tomorrow.

Switch the main window to the Mail view

Then, down at the bottom of the folder listing there should a heading
called Mail Views.

To add an 'All Mail' item there, follow these steps...

1. put 'a' into the spotlight search box in the top right hand corner
of the entourage window.
2. in the orange bar that appears, click on 'all mail' to select it,
then click on the '+' button.
3. Change the 'match of all criteria met' to 'match if any...'
4. Change the 'item contains' box to 'subject'.
5. Click the '+' button again, to open a second selection line
6. Change 'item contains' to 'subject' again, change the 'contains' to
'does not contain'
7. put 'a' in the text box on that line.
8. Click the 'save' button and give it the name 'all mail'

'All Mail' now appears in the Mail Views in the folder listing - select
that to show all the mail in the database in a single window.

(it sounds more complicated than it really is - you will only need to go
set this up once)

He's up late ;-)

Diane,

I may end up trying Apple Discussions, but the problem seems to be with Entourage, thus my asking here. Somehow the files got placed somewhere else on the HD while using the 3rd party software to import Outlook data into Entourage. AppleCare referred me to Office for Mac support and because I'm trying not to use up all my free calls, I decided to try this forum first.
