Cannot import Excel file to MS Outlook - ODBC error, too many fie.

I am attempting to load an Excel file of Names, addresses and phone numbers
to Outlook Contacts. Using the wizard, I get to identification of the file.
When I click next, I get the following message:

Translation error:
An ODBC error has occurred in the Microsoft Excel translator while opening a
file to build a field map. (Microsoft)(ODBC Excel Driver) Too many fields
defined.

I have named the data in the workbook per directions. The file contains 6
fields and 680 entries. I cannot get to the Custom Map Fields button in
Outlook. I don't get "the following action will be performed" notice from
Outlook.

If you save this worksheet as a .CSV file and the import that file - do you
still get the same error? There are too many potential causes for your
problem to begin to even speculate but trying this suggestion will narrow it
down in a hurry.

I have tried this and get the same error.

If your CSV file does not have extraneous commas at the end of each row
(indicating empty fields) - then I suggest you repair your MS Office
configuration since it would seem something has become corrupted. To check
you're CSV file - simply open it in any text file. The number of fields is
limited to 255 (SQL db's excepted) which is also Excel's column limit so off
the cuff - I'd be inclined to think you have a corrupt drivers.
