cannot insert jpg (jpeg)

Hi,

I'm getting this strange message when I try to insert a jpeg image into my
Powerpoint document.

A window pops-up and says
This application cannot open this file. This file is an unsupported graphic
format or may be damaged. Try opening the graphic in another application.

The image opens fine in every other program I've tried. This happens with
all jpeg images that I try.

(Powerpoint X for Mac Service Release 1 and fully patched)

Any suggestions?
