Cannot insert page numbers

The page numbering quit functioning. If I click on insert, page number, the
drop down box appears but the insert options are grayed out and the
insertion examples do not appear.

Have tried running the Office repair from the installation CD and have
deleted the BuildingBlocks.dotx files. Neither fix worked.

Suggestions?

Did you repair the Office installation after deleting the
BuildingBlocks.dotx files? I suspect you deleted the 'master'
BuildingBlocks.dotx file and that could be the source of your problem. The
only file you should delete/move is your personal BuildingBlocks.dotx file
which is located in your profile. The one in the Program Files folder should
be left alone since it's used to create your personal file if necessary.
