Cannot insert video into PowerPoint 2007

Whenever I insert video into PowerPoint 2007, (.avi, .mpg, .mpeg, etc.) and
attempt to run in show, the program crashes. Videos will run in Media Player
and have run Microsoft Office Diagnostics which shows no faults. Running XP
Home addition and PowerPoint Student installed over 2002 version. What
should i do?
