Cannot install Office 2003 SP2?

I went to Office Update and checked my machine. It was proposed to download
and install Office 2003 Update and I agreed to do it. The final message
notified that the installation was unsuccessful and proposed to redo, but the
same happened...
I have Windows XP Pro with SP2 and the automatic updating.

I got the following message: "the expected version of the product was not
found on your system"... but I can guarantee that Office 2003 is properly
working on my machine. JC

Hmm... w/out knowing what other stuff you might have installed, does this
article apply to your system setup?

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/909074

If it doesn't, then the patch setup log file would have to be reviewed to
see where the update is failing. By default, the log files are written to
the temp folder.

PS - A cross check to verify what the article is saying would be to open one
of the Office apps and pick Help > About and see if SP2 is listed after the
product name.

Many thanks neo, I believe that you have correctly identified the issue, I
did have downloaded Office 2003 Web Components which apparently is the source
of the problem, proposed solutions varie depending on the version 2 or 3 of
this software but I cannot find which of these versions I have, the only
indication is that my version is 11.0.8003.0. Is this version 3 or 2? I will
be glad if you can answer this last point. Thanks again. JC
