Cannot install Office 2007

J

Jon Davis

Office 2007 is available on MSDN Subscriber Downloads.

I am unable to install on XP MCE 2005. I get the error message:

"Setup is unable to proceed due to the following error(s):
The 2007 Microsoft Office system does not support upgrading from a
prerelease version of the 2007 Microsoft Office system. You must first
uninstall any prerelease versions of the 2007 Microsoft Office system
products and associated technologies.
Correct the issue(s) listed above and re-run setup."

Problem is, I haven't installed any prerelease versions of 2007. This is a
brand new laptop. The components I have installed that I suppose might have
some sort of relativity to Office 2007 are:

- Office 2003
- Visual Studio 2005 w/ Extensions for Office (v2)
- Windows Vista / .NET 3.0 SDK (final, plus PowerShell RC2)
- MS Expression Web Designer Beta 1

Does anyone have any advice? I have no intention to uninstall any of the
above unless I know it would fix the problem, as uninstallation and
reinstallation is no quick task.

I used the msi-clean-up-util-2 (msicuu2.exe) tool to remove 2007 beta
components that I could not see in the add remove programs panel

MS actually discourages using the Windows Install Clean Up Utility on
Office 2007. If you have to remove Office 2007 Beta manually, use the
steps I posted (they are from MS and due to appear in a KB soon).

As for the registry entries, i was too afraid to damage the system (I saw the
warning on the instructions) and decided to try to do without that step.

I have used the MO2007 beta "repair" option and now all applications work
except Outlook, which initially gives me the message that Outlook was not
shut down properly and must open in safe mode. When i click ok, it still will
not open and gives me the following Error message: OLMAPI32.dll
Someone suggested renaming the file to .old. Would you suggest this?
I'm really not up to manually uninstalling and reinstalling again and am
falling behind in my work on account of Outlook's failure to function.

Thank you in advance for your assistance and great wisdom.

Patrick Schmid said:
*sigh* What about the KB was unclear? What part of the KB said you could
skip removing the registry entries?
I suggest you remove Office 2007 with the setup program (if you can...),
then go through the whole KB and follow it to the letter in the exact
order specified. If it tells you to delete a registry key, then delete
it!
Then reboot and reinstall Office 2007 and if you still have a problem
then, post back.
Oh, and if you have Norton AntiVirus, disable its Office integration.

OK. I followed each and every step (except for the removal of the key
registries) for manual removal of all Office 2007 files from my computer.
Office 2007 did reinstall. However, now i cannot open any applications.
Outlook gives me the message "Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. Cannot
initialize Microsoft Office shared utilities. Restart your computer or
reinstall Microsoft Office Outlook."
And when i try to open Word it says there is not enough memory.

Is it possible i removed some files that are necessary for proper
functionality of Office? If so, how can i get those files back?

PLEASE HELP! The situation is urgent.
Thanks.

Just an update: I got OUTLOOK 2007 B working again by following the
instructions on this thread:
http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=757761&SiteID=17&PageID=0
All applications are working fine for now.
Thanks.
