Cannot install XML Compatibility Pack

I've been unable to successfully install the latest Microsoft XML
Compatibility Pack 0.2b successfully. It /says/ that the installation has
completed, but the plist file for this pack never appears in either of the
the Library/Preferences/Microsoft folders as it is supposed to do, and Mac
Word 2004 still will not recognize DOCX files created by Office 2007. I've
done the install several times.

My Office 2004 is fully updated. I've tried deleting all the plist files for
Office, all the usual stuff. I haven't yet deleted and reinstalled Office
2004 because I don't want to have to go through all the individual updates
again. Maybe that's what I will have to do.

Anyone one have experience with this? Ideas?

Thanks very much.

Hi,

the current XML converter does *not* allow you to open the new Microsoft
XML inside the Office 2004 applications; instead, you will need to open
the files with the converter, which will then generate files that can be
read by the Office applications.

Stop deleting preferences! Instead, read the manual files that come
with "Office Open XML Converter".
This is just a converting utility. Your word 2004 does not and will not
recognize DOCX files if you install MXCP 0.2.1. You will have to
convert this useless new file format into the older format used in the
actual word program.
You will get full support of DOCX in Word2008. Just wait, it is around
the corner....

OK--thanks very much for both of these posts.

I am going to try to work the converter. I didn't see a manual, per se,
although there is an XML Help file I should have paid more attention to.
Apparently the converter only converts docx files to rtf files.

Glad to hear that Office 2008 is coming soon.

It also converts .pptx files to .ppt files.
