Cannot join several tables

Using Word 2000

I inherited a document with several tables. There are paragraph markers
that separate the tables, however, I cannot delete those paragraphs. I want
a header row to flow though the pages of these tables that I'm trying to
join. Because I cannot delete that para marker, I'm having to move the text
to other cells.

Any help would be approoriate.

The first thing to check on is that you don't have any of the rows in the
second, third, etc., tables set as heading rows. Then make sure that none of
the tables is wrapped (check Table Properties | Table | Wrapping: None).
