cannot log into projectserver 2003 after patch/reboot

We have a new projectserver2003 sp1 on win2003 sp1 patched server. Last
month and again this month we applied patches that required the server to
reboot.
editsite tests successfully.
However the PWA and desktop Project 2003 both give 5001 errors for domain
account and 5008 error for the project local administrator account.

Last month I simply reinstalled Project to get back on track for the go-live
date. I am using my admin level domain account to do the install? Should be
this be done with the project service account? - I noticed in a previous
post the comment about a password being held in the registry? Could I be
losing that on the reboot?

Again I am going to have to reinstall to be back in business on Monday, but
it sure would be nice to know what is the root cause of the problem.

I think we'd need to know the specific patches that you are more or less
implicating and the exact sequence of events. Could it be that your SQL
server is down?
