Cannot make a backup of Normal.dot. This must be done outside Word...

Hi

can somebody advice me what to do?
The message is "Cannot make a backup of Normal.dot. This must be done
outside Word while Word is shut down"

Other error perhaps connected to this problem is when I try to create a
new Normal.dot. When closing Word the following message appears:
"Word can not delete the old backup file because it is read-only or
another user has it open C:\documents.....normal.dot".

Assuming you have Word (and Outlook) closed, I'm still wondering why
Normal.dot is in a "documents" folder.

Hi Suzanne,

this message arises when starting VBA cleaner from Word.

I think I have a clue now from: "how do i permanently modify normal
template in Word 2003" from Garfield-N-Odie. I have Adobe installed
and that is probably the problem why I can not update the normal.dot.

Hi Chris,

thanks for your help.

When I rename normal.dot to e.g. nomal1.dot then I recieve the message:

"Word can not delete the old backup file because it is read-only or
another user has it open C:\documents.....normal.dot".

Regards
Georg
