Dr Ken Brown-Gratchev
Had to replace my HD last month, & chose to reinstall all software instead of
using backup (wanted really clean install). Installed my MS Office Pro 2003,
all components, updated both Windows XP Pro SP2 & Office 2003 Pro with all
patches, updates, etc., plus keep it updated daily. Went through setup and
configuration in Outlook 2003 to have it use Word 2003 both to read Rich Text
email messages & to edit email messages. Went through setup and
configuration in Word 2003 to have Word do likewise. Despite this, does not
work. I get a pop-up error message box reading, "Microsoft Word is set to be
your email editor. However, Word is unavailable, not installed, or is not
the same version as Outlook. The Outlook email editor will be used instead.
An OLE registration error occurred. The program is not correctly installed.
Run Setup again for the program."
Even though Word 2003 & Outlook 2003 come from the same Office Pro 2003
suite, I've dutifully done this several times with no result change, + I've
also done the Detect & Repair from Help in both programs, with no result
change.
This might be a part of what's going on, or it may be a separate
issue...
Everytime my system boots up (at my direction or spontaneously), on my
Desktop screen I get a box pop-up message that Windows is installing DAO.msi.
Then I get another box pop-up message that Windows can't find this file in a
specific & apparently expected location, to install it. I've searched my
system, including hidden file folders/files, for DAO.msi, and it isn't on my
HD. Net effect is that I have to cancel this action, it tries it for a 2nd
time immediately, I cancel that also, and this doesn't re-appear unless I'm
opening up some program...never seems to be the same programs and doesn't
occur with regularity/consistency that I can tie to a specific program(s). I
cannot see a pattern to it showing up again. I have found out that DAO.msi
is related to MS Office XP, not the MS Office Pro 2003 that I have on my
system.
Any simple step-by-step instructions on how to fix this would be highly
appreciated!
