Cannot not access the help function

I am getting a weird error whenever I click the Help Button. I could not find
the answer to my problem on the regular site so I thought I would ask here.

When I click the help button it displays this error message:

The setup controller has encountered a problem during install. Please review
the log files for further information on the error.

When I press ok to exit out of the error, it then displays this:

CLView can't display Help.
CLView cannot install the necessary files due to Windows installer error 33.
The process cannot access the file because another process has locked a
portion of the file.

Oops, forgot to finish the post. I'm using Word 2007 by the way. Any ideas as
to what's happening?

I can tell you some things about what's probably happening, but I
can't promise a fix.

CLView.exe is the program (new in Office 2007) that displays the help.
Either it wasn't installed correctly when you installed the rest of
Office, or something damaged its files or registry entries afterward.
That's why the installer is trying to run.

The text of Windows Installer error 33 is only "Setup failed". The
rest of the message you quoted is more informative, but it would have
been nice if it mentioned which file it was trying to access. (That's
a common and infuriating failing of MS's error messages. The software
knows what it's looking for, but it won't tell you.)

The log files mentioned in the first message probably don't exist.
Usually you have to run the installer package from a command line and
include a switch to turn on logging, or know to create the magic
registry key that forces all installers to write logs. (Go to
<http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-gb/library/kz0ke5xt(vs.80).aspx> and
look in the section "How do I get a log file for my installation?".)

The thing most likely to fix the problem is to click the Office button
in Word, click "Word Options" at the bottom of the menu, click the
Resources tab, and click the Diagnose button in the "run Microsoft
Diagnostics" section. That will run the installer in maintenance mode,
which may get CLView installed properly.

Good luck!

Thanks so much for your help. Unfortunately, nothing really worked. I had run
diagnostics before you even suggested it, and it did repair a file, but it
still didn't fix my problem. Should I try reinstalling Office?

Have you resolved this issue? I've had the same exact issue and I cannot find
a solution.

Nope, never resolved it...it's really annoying too. Also, the style manuals
weren't loaded with office either, so the insert reference function won't
work either

I just solved this problem. I was having the EXACT same problem. I couldn't run help and I lost all of the style manuals. Turns out the problem is easy to solve. First download and install the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. If you google search that program name the first hit takes you to Microsofts site. Install it, and then uninstall MS Office 07. Restart your computer, then reinstall office. Make sure it's a full install with all features run from the computer. Once I did that all problems were solved. It was great.

I'm sorry, but I've tried all of these things and nothing works. Has this
worked for anyone? I appreciate the help.

I have posted a remedy that has worked for me in a similar topic on here.
Look for Help doesn't work in Word 2007. I have not recieved any responses,
but it is worth a try.

I understand the part of downloading the Cleanup Utility, but what do I do
with it? Do I erase all the installation files on MSOffice or just some of
them? Do I erase these files before or after I uninstall MSOffice? Sorry for
the trouble but I'm finding this problem very annoying. Thanks.

1)Delete Microsoft Help : C\PROGRAM DATA\MICROSOFT\HELP

2)Deleted CL view registry Key from :

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0

3)Reapair Office

4)reboot pc

Issue resolved

I am also getting the "CLView can't display Help" error. The steps below
don't seem to help me, as the file path C:\Program Data\Microsoft\Help does
not exist. I have a "Microsoft Office" folder inside "Program Data," but it
does not have a file called "Help."

I don't suppose just reinstalling and choosing to "repair" would solve this?
