Cannot open a project

I have a project on MS Project 2003 (and Project Server 2003) that will not
open. It generates the message 'Microsoft Project has encountered a problem
and needs to close.' I have tried the insert solution offered on the mvp
FAQ's but still get the message. Has anyone run across this before? Any
ideas on how to retrieve the file?

I am having similar issues in MS Project 2003 when trying to open a plan from
Project Server 2003. What I noticed was that when MS Project Server starts to
open the plan, on the bottom left of the window it shows all links that are
being opened / imported for the plan and then it crashes while attempting on
one of the links.

We couldnt find a resolution so this is what we did.

Since my project in Project Server 2003, we restored the SQL database into
the same server with a different name. Therefore all projects were restored,
we then copied over the corrupted project. I knew the changes that were made
and as we didnt have any links added from and to this project we made the
call to overwrite the corrupted row in the table. I have checked the
integrity of the plan it is fine!
