Cannot open a specific Project

Help@!

I am one of two project managers for my company and recently I have begun
getting an error message when saving one particular project to the server.

For the last several months, I have been able to open this project, add
tasks, etc and then save and publish. But starting last week, I get an error
message which says:

"The file cannot be opened.
Check that the file name and path are correct.
Check that the file format is recognized by Project.

Project files saved in a version easlier than Microsoft Project 98 can't be
opened.

If your file is from an earlier version, open it in that version, click save
as (File Menu), and save in MPX format. etc...

The trick is that the other project manager in the office, who runs the same
version of Project (2007) as I do, can open it and save without getting this
error message.

Has anyone seen this before and know how to fix it?

Have you tried deleting the entire cache folder from within explorer ?

Something else you can try is to ask you colleague (who can open the file)
to open it and save out to XML. Then delete the project from the server.
Import the XML file back to Project Pro then save it to the server. Then
reconnect the WSS site.

Your XML tricked worked. I can now open the project etc.

BUT I cannot figure out how to reattach the workspace. I made sure not to
delete it but it does not appear until Server Settings > Project Workspaces.

Whenever I try to publish this project now it asks me to create a new
workspace. However if I tell it to save the one it suggests, it tells me
there is already one using that name. So I know it is out there so to speak.

Thanks for your help!

can you browse to the original sharepoint project site ?

If the project is not showing under Project Workspaces, publish the project
to a dummy WSS site, then go to Project Workspaces and change the URL to the
original, remembering to delete the dummy site.

Please rate this post if you feel it's been of use.
