Cannot open an Excel 2000 file

I was working in an excel file and became locked up.
Had to restart my PC to get up and running again.
When back to Excel to open the file I was working on and
when I click on the file I receive this message.

Mircrsoft Excel for Windows has encountered a problem and
needs to close. Sorry for the inconvinience.

Does anyone know how I can open the file or extract the
data from file?

I have tried everything.

This document is important.

Any help would greatly help.

it's shareware tho...
