Cannot open application - no error message

I was working on my Access 2000 application yesterday offsite and using my
flashdrive. Today I can't open the application from the flashdrive or my
harddrive; I had already copied it from the flash drrive to overwirte my
harddrive version. I can see all of the attributes: size, date, etc. so I
know it is there.

I've tried opening the application from Explorer, from the subdirectory and
from within Access. Access will open and I get the gray screen with a "Done"
at the bottom. Nothing appears. All other applications on the flashdrive are
fine. This is the only one I worked on from the flashdirfve yesterday.

I did pull out the flashdrive from the USB port yesterday without using the
icon to disconnect. I think I was even powering down when I pulled it out. Is
this the problem? How can I get my app back??

When using a flash drive I always tell my students to completely shut down
the database and Access before pulling out the flash drive. If you are using
an OS before XP it's very important to disconnect properly. If using XP, you
should hover over the icon and make sure that it says that it's save to
disconnect from the USB port.

Try starting up the database until where it says "Done" as you described.
Next press the F11 key. If your karma is good, the database window will
appear.

If that doesn't work, go to the menu bar and select Window, Cascade. Any joy?

If no joy, create a new database file and attempt to import everything from
your old database to it.

If that doesn't work, do you have a recent backup? You have now learned two
valuable lessons (1) the wisdom of frequent backups, and (2) the care and
proper feeding of flash drives.

Below are some resources for corrupt database files.
Tony Toews has an excellent web page on database corruption.

Allen Brown also has excellent info on corruption.

I have a white paper in a Word document named Fix Corrupt Access Database

Thank you for responding!

I do disconnect my flashdrive in the manner you suggest, but was just spaced
out yesterday and pulled it out without thinking.

I tried the retireval with an F11: nothing. Most of the menu items
(inlcuidng Cascade) are disabled. There aren't any objects that appear in any
form, anywhere, so I can't create a new application and import them. I can't
repair the database since there are no objects. I've ifxed corrupted
databases before, but that doesn't seem to be what this is .It's very
strange.

I found another thread with this problem and am hoping that person will see
this plea and have a solution.

Any other ideas? :)

I fixed it!

Luckily I had only been working with tables and queries yesterday. I
imported the tables I needed into Excel (one table per spreadsheet), then
created a new Access database. I then imported the tables from Excel, then
imported the rest from an older back-up I had from the original application
(the forms, etc).

And it now works!

nope; that is horrible news.

I would rather that you LOST YOUR MISSION CRITICAL DATA and learned
the sting of MDB file format.

MDB is for fucking retards.

use Access Data Projects if your data is important in the slightest
