Cannot Open ASD Files

Ray

My operating system is Windows XP Home Edition.
I was using Word 2000 in Small Business Office 2000.
I was typing with the alphabetical keys (A - Z)
and my document vanished from my computer monitor.
I had not "hit" any of the function keys.
My computer did not "blink" or restart.
My Word 2000 application did not vanish.
The electricity did not "flicker." Nothing unusual
happened. I had saved the document previously.
My document was missing and I could not find it.
Finally, I found it as a ASD File:
"~$toRecovery save of . . . "
but when I opened the document, all I had on my monitor
was several strings of yyyyyyyy's and some little squares.
Please help me "open this document in my normal format.
This document is very important.
Thank You,
Ray

You cannot open an .asd file. Only Word can do that. It should present you
with the "Recovered" file the next time you start Word. If it didn't, then
most likely the one you found is not the one you lost but one left over from
some previous crash.
