Cannot open attachment from PC

Every so often I get an attachment from someone on a PC that comes across as "winmail.dat", even though it's really a Word document that ends with .doc But when I go to webmail to download it through the browser the attachment is fine.

This doesn't happen all the time as other times I can receive attachments just fine. Is it the way that person is sending the file? But if so, how come I can see it online before it's downloaded to my Entourage?

Your advice is much appreciated!

Hi Anna,

this issue is not caused by Entourage; it is a well-known side-effect
caused by the combination Outlook & attachment & message sent in RTF format.

See here for more details:

My guess is that your e-mail provider has some sort of built-in software
that extracts these winmail.dat files automatically for you.
