cannot open dbase

Tried to do a dbase compact on MS 2000 database over a network and during
the compression, the network connect was lost. Now When I try to open the
database, I get the error message:
"MS Jet database engine stopped the process becuase you or another user are
attempting to change the same data at the same time."
The database then shuts down. I've tried connecting with code and MS Query
and even compact and repair, but I get the same message as above.
Is there anything else I should try?
