cannot open documents after reinstalling word

I have re-installed Windows XP and Office 2000 on a new master hard disk.

Now I can no longer open word documents on the (unchanged) slave disc. It
says : ........... the document name or path is not valid ..........

Some documents are password protected.
I cannot access other files that are in the same directory.

However I can open Word docs that I saved on the slave disc in that same
directory since the re-install?

Does this have something to do with the rights of the user-account?

Any suggestions? Many thanks.

How are you trying to open the documents? Are you using File/Open? Are
you double-clicking them in an Exploring window such as My Computer?
