Cannot open Entourage

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Power PC

For some reason, I cannot open Entourage. All of the updates are current. Orginally I was getting a "access forbidden -18597 error, but now when I open Entourage, I canot get in. I was using Entourage to access my hotmail account. Before reinstalling entourage and redoing the updates, it said my identify didn't march. Is there any way to export the offline emails so I can use them somewhere else? Or, is this a problem with msn hotmail?

Hold the Shift key down when launching Entourage. This will disable any
schedule trying to fire. Most likely you have a bad message in the outbox.

"This Identity Cannot Be Opened With This Version of Entourage"
This message usually means, for example, any Identity saved with a 12.1.0 or
later version will not open in 12.0.0 or 12.0.1. Since there was a database
format change in 12.1.0 (SP1), Entourage 12.0.0 or 12.0.1 cannot open a
database saved in the later version.

Entourage 2004 also had a database upgrade from the original release. Once
you upgrade, the Identity will open.

Can you explain further what the last paragraph means - Entourage 2004 also had a database upgrade from the original release. Once
you upgrade, the Identity will open. ?/ I think I have all the updates installed, adn don't think I did anything else lately. How can I tell if I have the correct version running to eliminate this identity problem? Thanks.

A lot of people will do a re-install of the software and not update. Since
they had updated previously their Entourage Identity will not open because
it was updated and the database was upgraded. Entourage 2004 had a change
that upgraded the database after the initial release. Until you update
Entourage it will not open.

Download this script that will show you Office version info. Note there are
different scripts for Office X, 2004 and Office 2008. It gives the version
number for each Office application, the component plugin and your OS
version. Even if ALL the Office applications aren't updated each time, the
Microsoft Component Plugin, which isn't an app, will always show the latest
update.

Now Entourage opens, but I still get the "forbidden" message. Is there a chance that hotmail no longer works with Entourage?

No!

Number Errors <http://www.entourage.mvps.org/error/number.html#error-18587>

This is probably because the e-mail address you typed in the account dialog
does not exactly match the one the server expects. Since the addresses don't
match, it doesn't allow you to send.

Try testing in a new Identity. Enter the Hotmail account and see if it
connects. If yes, then switch back to your original Identity and see if it
works.

Be careful when entering. Using copy/paste can result in an extra space
being added. Type carefully.

1. If you can receive but not send then you have a bad SMTP configuration
2. If you can send but not receive you have a bad POP or IMAP configuration

You can try re-entering info.
You can delete account and create a new one.
Check your Keychain for corruption.
