cannot open excel files over network anymore!

Hi - I'm new to this group but if anyone can help me - please do! I'm
going crazy trying to fix this! Background - We have 3 computers on
our network linked together via ethernet over a network using
Appletalk. All 3 computers are running Office:mac 2004. Problem started
immediately after we replaced one of these computers with a brand new
PowerMac G5. Since we got this new computer, we can no longer open any
excel files over this network - not even between the 2 older computers
whose set up never changed. The problem is affecting only Excel files.
Word files open no problem, which leads me to believe it is not a
network set up problem, as all files can be seen and opened by
everything but excel. I can see all the excel files listed, but they
cannot be opened. The error message we receive is " "name of file"
cannot be accessed. The file may be read-only, or you may be trying to
access a read-only location. Or, the server the document is stored on
may not be responding". The file read-only part is incorrect as the
permissions are set to read and write. The server is responding as I
can open all Word files no problem over the netowk. I called tech
support for Offiice - they believe it is a networking error, which I
don't think it is, because I can access everything else. I called Mac
support, they believe it is something to do with Excel, and word would
not open if it was a problem with the network set up. - Anyway, I have
repaired permissions, re-installed Office, and am at a loss with what
to do. If anyone can help me, I'd be quite grateful.
