cannot open excel without install

Urgent! I am trying to open Excel files and instead of opening them, it goes
immediately into an install of Windows 2000 Premium. It does not complete
because I don't have the Windows 2000 Premium CD and it won't even open the
file. Can anyone assist with this please?

Did you ever figure this out? I have the same problem with excel 2002

No. Unfortunately I never figured out what was going on. I ended up
reinstalling Office on my laptop again.
