Cannot Open File !

I am running Windows Millennium with Office 2000 Premium.

In Excel I have various documents which I burn't to a CD-Rom.

When I put these documents back onto my hard drive some of them would not
open.

When I try to open them I get a message box saying the following:-

"File cannot be accessed. The file may be read only, or you may be trying to
access a read only location.Or, the server the document is stored on may not
be responding."

Not all my Excel documents do this, some actually open as normal but the
one's that don't are the one's that I need.

I have right clicked each document and altered their properties in an
attempt to open them but to no avail.

One thing that I have noticed though, is that all the documents that work,
when right clicked and properties selected, they all display a box with 3
tabs.(General/Custom/Summery)
Whilst all the documents that do not open and display the above error
message only have 1 tab. (General)

Can anyone help me sort this out please.

Thanks.... Simon.

It sure sounds like something bad happened to a few of your files. Any chance
you have another set of backups?

If no, you may want to see if you can open the file in Notepad. (Just to see if
it can be opened--be careful and don't make any changes and don't save it.)

Excel 2002 has a better reputation opening files that earlier version couldn't
and OpenOffice has the same reputation (I've never used it, though).

(http://www.openoffice.org, a 60-65 meg download or a CD)

I've never used this either, but you might want to check into:
