Cannot open "New Appointment"

Using Outlook 2003, I've lost the capability to open up a new appointment
window. Nothing happens. If I try to double click on a time using the 1-day
view, then type in the appt info directly on the calendar, it gives the
message "Cannot save item". I get the same message when altering an
existing appointment. I tried all the ways to open a new appointment and
nothing happens.
I can create a new task, a note, a message, etc and everything works like it
is suppose to EXCEPT I cannot create a new appointment.
Any ideas?
