Cannot Open non sharepoint sites

I am having trouble openning web sites that do not have sharepoint services
and on which I do not want to use share point services. BUT frontpage insists
it cannot open them until share point extesnsions are enabled on the site.

I have tried disabling all share point functionality in front page but to no
avail. I need to edit these sites but frontpage is not being very helpful.

What is going on!

The error message applies to both SharePoint and FP extensions enabled site.

You can only open a site on a live/remote server directly in FP, if the site has the FP extensions
or SharePoint installed.

It appear from your post/error message that the live/remote server doesn't have either.

SO you will have to use a FTP application to open the site and then download a copy to a folder on
your HD, then open that folder in FP. Let FP convert it to a web, then you can may your change and
the publish back to the remote server via FP's FTP mode.

Thank you Thomas - I have now fixed the problem and it is related to the
server extensions but not as simple as it may seem. The server is a Linux
server and I access it via cpanel. The frontpage extensions were listed as
being installed. I did the following to restore operation.

1 Uninstall frontpage extensions
2 "Clean up fp installation - removes .access and .tmp files
3 Install FP extensions

In other words reset all the default settings. Then it seemed fine. Don't
know what happened but somehow the extensions etc got messed up. Never
happened with FP 2000 but I find FP2003 very twitchy - seems like a great
product but seems a little unstable.

Thanks for your contribution.
