cannot open organization chart word 2000 in word 2003

I have created a document in Word 2000 containing a rather big organization
chart. I have now Office 2003 installed and when I try to open the chart to
make amendments I get an error message saying: 'The server application,
source file or item cannot be found. Mke sure the application is properly
installed, and that it has not been deleted, moved, or renamed.' Any ideas?

Hi Gabaidh,

Starting with Office XP (Word 2002) MS changed to a different
Org chart diagram tool. For Word 2003 you can download
and install the older tool that you had in Word 2000,
MS Org Chart v2, from the Office 2003 Resource Kit downloads
section:
http://microsoft.com/office/orkarchive/2003ddl.htm

The 'big brother' of the older MS OrgChart app is available
from http://orgplus.com and MS Office Visio has more advanced
features as well http://microsoft.com/office/visio/prodinfo

Bob,

I've also been having problems opening old orgcharts in word 2003 - i get
the following error when i double-click the chart - "This object was created
in OrgPlusWOPX. This application is not available to open this object. Make
sure the application is properly installed and that it has not been deleted,
moved, or renamed."

I've reinstalled msoc2.exe and that doesn't help. I've seen KB article
290942 and the links therein but to no avail.

However, the weird bit is that it works with a different user so it looks
more like a permissions or registry setting problem. It's on a large domain
and a couple of admin users work OK but another admin user and the original
non-admin user can't open it. I've been through the registry with a fine
tooth comb but nothing jumps out at me and the group policy settings don't
look to be causing the problem either (used gpresult to check differences)

Any ideas would be gratefully received.

Cheers,

Baz

Hi Baz,

If OrgPlus was used (newer version than the Org Chart v2
applet) you may need to have that version installed for that
user from http://orgplus.com Does the user who can use the
orgcharts show that program in Add/Remove Programs?

Bob,

thanks for replying.

the situation is that the whole network has been gradually updated to XP
from various previous versions of windows but if there was ever a copy of
orgplus, it's not being used now. every user has a new pc with XP and office
2003 on it and the word document was held on a server. none of the users have
any versions of orgplus installed and yet the same embedded chart can be
opened by some and not others.

very confused

Hi Baz,

It can be a firewall/antivirus setting as well as missing the
app.

If you use Insert=>Object on a computer that can display the
chart is there an OrgPlus listing?

Can you email me a copy of the document where you're seeing this?

Try selecting the chart and use the Unlink command (Ctrl+Shift+F9): will it
open now?
