Cannot open Outlook 2003

Sharon Miller

I just installed Office 2003; previously had Office 2002.
All the programs open except for Outlook 2003 will not
open. It gives you the typical "Microsoft has encountered
a problem and needs to close" message. Do you want to
send an error report?".

I've tried reinstalling Office 2003, tried the repair
feature, tried downloading all new updates for Office
2003. Outlook is EXTREMELY important to me - more so than
any other program because I have hundreds of contacts,
folders and email in there.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hmmm, sounds like M$ have screwed up with their Installer
2.0 for the 10 millionth time. The error suggests there
are either corrupt or incompatible files on your hard
drive for Outlook 2003, which is fairly typical really for
M$s appauling installer. Unfortunately I can't offer any
real solutions other than possibly uninstalling,
restarting, manually deleting the Office directory from
the "Program Files" folder and scanning through the
registry to eliminate Office registry entries, i.e. making
the machine as clean as you can before re-installation.

Like I said this sort of nonsense is fairly typical with
M$ products and their usual defence is that there are
1000s of files on a typical users hard drive and we can't
test every single one for compatibility. And to be fair
they are, up to a point, correct. Perhaps a reduction on
the "bloatware" front is in order.
