I have moved all files and programs (using PCMover) from an old XP computer
to a new Vista computer. All of the Office programs work fine, except for
Outlook. When I try to open it, I get the error,
"Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Unable to open the Outlook window. The set
folders could not be opened. The server is not available."
On the XP computer, I used Outlook connected to Hotmail.
I use a solo computer, not connected to a network.
Initial research suggested that I needed to edit an .mst file to change the
default location for PST files to a folder instead of a filename. Using the
Office 2003 Resource Kit, I created a New Custom Setup File.mst with the
appropriate changes. I then uninstalled Office 2003. Then, with the
installation cd inserted (E, I tried from the Windows Run window:
E:\setup.exe TRANSFORMS="C:\Users\[my name]\Documents\New Custom Setup
File.MST" /qb-
The setup process initialized briefly, but then quit.
I then installed Office 2003 "normally" from the cd.
Then, using the Office 2003 Resource Kit, I created a New Maintenance Data
File.cmw with the changes to the default location for the PST files.
However, I was then supposed to copy the MaintWiz.exe to my "Office
Administrative installation point." Two problems with this:
1. I can't find MaintWiz.exe anywhere.
2. Because I am not connected to a network, and this is not a network
installation, I don't have an Office Administrative installation point.
After two days of hammering at this, I've run out of options, so I ask this
group for help. Thanks.
