cannot open Outlook 2007

Outlook 2007 just crashed; it was working fine and the next mn I got a
message saying "the set of folders cannot be opened; errors have been
detected. Use the inbox repair tool (scanpst.exe)"
We have Vista as operating system.
BUT! I hve tried every angle, cannot open that file which I downloaded. I
don't have the startup CD as I purchased Office Basic online. Can anybody
help? Microsoft customer service has been useless as far as help...
Thanks!

We downloaded scanpst.exe after searching for it all over the computer, and
now it says "cannot open because scnpst32.dll is not found"
My concern is, downloads take for hours (we are on satellite) and seem to
slow the computer down, but still, we cannot get Outlook back.
Any suggestions?

SCANPST.EXE is located in %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Office\Office12 for
Outlook 2007. It should also be at Start (Windows Orb on Vista)>Microsoft
Office>Microsoft Office Tools>Inbox Repair Tool

I have it because I downloaded it but my problem is I cannot OPEN it! It
tells me that file scnpst32.dll is not found. Now where do I find that one,
and if I do download it, will it aske me for another one? Is there no simple
fix to Outlook 2007? I am desperate here... Thanks!

SCANPST should never need to be downloaded. Did you look for it where I
said to look? Scnpst32.dll will be there as well. It is always installed
from the Office installation, but I'll admit I don't know whether or not
it's included in Office Basic. I'd expect so, however. Click Help>Office
Diagnostics and perform a repair.

I did look where you said, and neither of these files was to be found
there. I guess they don't
come with MS Office basic??? So, any idea of what I should do now?
Thanks...

Did you perform the repair as I suggested?

I did, and it got me nowhere; right now it looks like my whole computer is
slow as molasses, it takes minutes to open any program and internet pages are
even worse...

Sounds like you have problems other than with Outlook then.

Don't think so. I have exactly the same problem. Out of the blue, Outlook
reported my pst file to be corrupt and to execute scanpst. No scanpst on my
system either.
Kind regards

It is unlikely you don't have scanpst. For Outlook 2003 and earlier, it's
in
%CommonProgramFiles%\System\MSMAPI\1033 . For Outlook 2007, it's in
%ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Office\Office12 . Usually, it's also on the Start
menu, either under All Programs>Microsoft Office Tools or All
Programs>Microsoft Office>Microsoft Office Tools.
