Cannot open Outlook

Windows Vista Home Premium, all updates applied. When one attempts to open
Outlook, it fails. The message reads:
"...Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window.
The set of folders cannot be opened. Errors have been detected in the file
C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\Personal Folders(1).pst. Quit
Outlook and all mail-enabled applications and then use the Inbox repair tool
(Scanpst.exe) to diagnose and repair errors in the file. For more
information about the Inbox repair tool see Help..."

Any ideas welcomed.

Sorry, I did not run scanpst.

I did run the Microsoft Office Diagnostics. It reported 1 error and 1 error
repaired.

I have searched the computer and a .PST file does not exist. I have now
brought a new .PST file from the other computer. But one can't open an
Outlook Data file without being able to open Outlook. I suppose I could
simply move the new .PST file into that location in the Personal Folders and
hope for the best. The computer is at the Club member's home and I will have
to wait until I can return to the member's home to take any further action.
However, I wonder about the location "...\Outlook\Personal
Folders(1).pst.... Why the "(1).pst" in the location?

Yes it does. It must because it's named in the error message. AppData is a
hidden folder, though, so browsing doesn't work unless you unhide folders.
Open Windows Explorer and enter
C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook
into the Address field. Click Go.

You don't want to do what you're trying. Even though you can add PSTs to mail
profiles using the Mail applet in Control Panel, you want to try to fix your
existing one first.

I suppose I could simply move the new .PST file into that location in the

That will be a mistake. You corrupt your mail profile so that nothing will
work properly.
