Cannot open photos downloaded from digital camera in Word

I have Word 2000 on my Presario 5000T. I downloaded photo
from an Olympus D220L Digital camera and saved them on my
C: drive under "My documents". I can go to my C: drive
and open the photos; however, if I'm in Word and open up
the Photos folder in "My documents" all I get is a a bunch
of little boxes and gargage on the screen. I can copy a
photo from my C: drive into Word, but I can't open a photo
from inside Word (from the Photo folder in "My
documents"). The photos are stored as .jpeg. I've never
had any trouble opening photos, etc. in Word before (just
with this camera download).

1. Am I storing the photos correctly (jpeg)?
2. Do I need some sort of program to open the photos
directly from Word?
3. Am I storing the photos in the correct directory, or
does it matter? (C: drive under "My documents")
4. Is Word 2000 compatable with this camera (Olympus
D220L digital)?

thank you.

If you are using File/Open and are attempting to open image files then
Word does not open images using File/Open and Word will instead
attempt to convert the image into a Word document format.

If you want to insert a photo into a Word document then use
Insert/Picture/From File. Is it possible that is the command you were
using before?

Try changing the file extension to .jpg.
